Richard is a former authonomy.com gold medalist. He has featured in Third Flatiron Publishing’s ‘The Time It Happened’ anthology and also in The New Accelerator digital imprint. Richard lives for writing and his love of the great outdoors. Welcome to the 13 DAYS OF FRIGHT. For the next two weeks, I'll be featuring one of the "Fright Before Christmas" stories on my blog. Check here each day for teasers for each story. Anyone who posts a comment on any of the posts will be automatically entered for a free print copy of the book when it comes out. Today's featured story is by Lea Storry. Check out her teaser below. Lea Storry (her real name) is a writer who owns a memoir writing business. She loves creating fiction too and has contributed a story to the Fright before Christmas and has published a kids’ book out about a raven learning to fly. She is currently working on a YA novel. Besides being a writer, Lea’s a pilot and a traveller and an outdoors woman who loves her bike.
It's the most wonderful time of year...or is it? Christmas Eve is a night of mystery and magic, but not always in ways we expect. Things lurk in the shadows and they're not the least bit jolly or merry. Let's just say some presents are better left unopened. ‘Tis the season to be screaming along with our thirteen tales of holiday horrors. Ghosts. Monsters. Demons. And more!
This Christmas, be careful what you wish for...
Not only do I get to reveal the awesome cover for the next Leap Books anthology, "Fright before Christmas: 13 Tales of Christmas Horrors," I have the BOOK TRAILER and a link to a GIVEAWAY! I am thrilled to be under contract with Three Worlds Press for "Forced Perspective," which will be my first full-length novel to be accepted for publication. As you may know, Three Worlds also published my romantic ghost story, "Breathless" as part of their Sea Mist Series.
"Forced Perspective" will be part of Three World's River Bend Series. River Bend, Missouri is the kind of town where everybody wants to live, and her stories will be full of romance and paranormal fun. I'll be keeping you posted about my book and the series as a whole, so be sure to check here. I can't wait to dig into edits with my editor extraordinaire, Gina Wynn, who will also be contributing to the River Bend Series. I'm under contract with Leap Books! Again! |
I am so excited! My first piece of flash fiction has been accepted for publication in Theme of Absence: An Online Magazine of Fantasy, Horror, and Science Fiction, a beautiful FREE literary magazine. The Editor, Jason Bougger, is committed to providing access to free stories for readers and to supporting authors via his beautiful publication. Look for my story, "The Ship," and an interview by Jason, on the Theme of Absence website on July 17th. In the meantime, check out the dozens of super stories, including, "The Misfortune Cookie," written by David Turnbull, one of my "Beware the Little White Rabbit" co-authors. |
You've waited patiently, but the wait for the print edition of "Beware the Little White Rabbit" is over. Now we just have to wait for the audio edition ... sigh. In the meantime, check out this excerpt of my story. If you're interested in more teasers, you can find them on the Leap Books Blog. Alice in Wilderland By Jessica BaylissAlice snapped off another shot and checked the image in her camera’s viewfinder. The light was wrong. She adjusted some settings and brushed a |
She plucked a waxen petal and pinched it, releasing a delicate cucumber fragrance. Now she had no doubt the tiny bloom was one of the rare specimens on her list. And in another minute, she’d have the perfect pic to bring back to the Wilderland Ecological Society, the group that had arranged this weekend trip. She glanced toward the path. There was no sign of her group through the thick growth of trees and brush. She was so not supposed to lag behind. Brooks was going to chew her out for sure, but if she got this shot, it would be worth their guide’s legendary wrath. Alice was determined to get into a top ecology program when she applied to colleges this year, and this summer elective was just the kind of extracurricular all the best schools liked to see.
Not to mention the fact that Alice needed something to fill her time, occupy her mind until the day she could get out of here for good.
